Mental Health Advocacy Scholarship

The Griggs Foundation, I am pleased to share an exciting scholarship opportunity for graduating seniors within Birmingham City Schools.
The Glenn Adrian Griggs, Sr. Mental Health Advocacy Scholarship was established to support students who are committed to promoting mental health awareness, reducing stigma, and advocating for emotional well-being within their families, schools, and communities.
We kindly request your assistance in sharing this opportunity with eligible students who exemplify leadership, integrity, compassion, and a passion for making a meaningful difference.
Eligibility Requirements:
• Birmingham City Schools high school senior
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Demonstrated involvement or interest in mental health advocacy or community service,
with plans to major in psychology or social work
• Plans to enroll in Alabama State University or an Historically Black College or
University (HBCU)
Application Components:
• Completed application form (see enclosure)
• HBCU admission letter
• Official high school transcript
• Personal essay describing a personal or family experience that inspired an interest in mental health advocacy, including why mental health is important to you and how you
have helped—or plan to help—reduce stigma and support emotional well-being
• One letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach, or community mentor (the letter should address the student’s character, resilience, and commitment to mental wellness)
Scholarship Details:
• Award Amount: $500
• Application Deadline: May 8, 2026, by 11:59 pm

• Award Presentation Date: May 24 or May 25, 2026 (TBD)
